Spies Among Us
I've got a new project with Chuck Lichtenberger called Spies Among Us.  It's a vibes/piano duo where we show off the more melodic, almost cabaret-ish side of our original compositions.  We've got a few shows coming up, including some collaborations with the ever-entertaining Holiday Childress.

Visit me on MySpace
I've finally caught up to the times and started using MySpace. There's music in the player and a much better blog setup than I have here, and more stuff on the way.   Come have a look!

Andy Lehman CD released
It's called Landline, produced by Holiday Childress (of The Goodies) and featuring guest spots by Stephanie Morgan, Chuck Lichtenberger, and others, including a little straight-up rock drumming from me.  Check out the album at Andy's site.

Rande Sanderbeck at UNCA
Rande, my college percussion teacher, is coming to town to sit in with the UNCA percussion ensemble and give us all some schooling on drumset.  He'll also be giving a drumset clinic while he's here -  see info on the Shows page.

The Untold Ensemble  to perform at UNCA
We've finally gotten everybody together for our first music-only concert, and it should be a great one.  Featuring the premiere of a new work by Brad Hebert, as well as selections from Gilgamesh and a few other treats.  We'll finish it off with Marimba Spiritual by Minoru Miki - if you haven't heard this piece live, now's the time!

Grus Americanus by Stephanie's Id is released!
The new Stephanie's Id album is now available at shows, and will be released nationwide later this summer.  I will be re-joining the band for a few shows this summer, including the Asheville release party on June 29 and Bele Chere on July 28.

*UPDATE* - Gilgamesh CD release delayed
Many apologies...but the Gilgamesh CD will NOT be released in May as previously announced.  There have been many roadblocks (both technical and artistic) and it just isn't up to my standards yet.  Please be assured, though, that we are making slow but steady progress, and it will be worth the wait.

Gilgamesh - this week! (September, 2006)
It's the original hero epic, and the basis for many of the classic stories of civilization.  Set in ancient Sumer, and based on the oldest surviving epic poem in the world, it's gods, heroes, love, and immortality in 3,000 BC.  We had a fantastic premiere at UNCA earlier this month, and now there are only 2 chances left to see the show!

You don't want to miss this production, with drama, music, and dance from Asheville's own:

Text by David Brendan Hopes, performed by Black Swan Theater

Choreography by Ann Dunn, performed by the Asheville Ballet

Music by Matthew Richmond, performed by The Untold Ensemble, the UNCA University Singers, and Cantaria

Diana Wortham Theatre

Listen to a sample clip of music from Gilgamesh.  It contains excerpts of two pieces - the Prologue and the Bull of Heaven.

Happy Birthday T-mo!
August 15...my favorite little buddy is 1.  Check out some pictures on the family page.

The Untold Ensemble
A new musical entity is being born...the Untold Ensemble.  Currently a percussion quartet, our debut will be this September's stunning production of Gilgamesh, where we will be joined by men's choir Cantaria and other guests.  After Gilgamesh, we'll be expanding into lots of sonic territory and different types of projects, and evolving rapidly.   Keep your eye out for Untold (our rock/pop/etc incarnation) or the Untold Ensemble (our classical format).  We'll be there wherever interesting music strikes...

Jazz Jam to continue
The first Jazz Jam at Tressa's was a big success!  We'll be continuing approximately once a month from here.  The schedule is still being worked out, so check back to my Tressa's page for dates and set lists.

Vibe bars found!
I recently lost the bars for my vibraphone, and it was a devastating time.  Thanks to an amazing set of circumstances, the bars were recovered a week later, only slightly worse for the experience.  Thanks so much to everyone who offered help, encouragement, love, and chocolate-chip cookies.  You can read the whole story here.

Jazz Jam at Tressa's - change of plans
Tressa's has decided not to host the weekly jazz jam as previously announced.  Instead, we'll be trying a Thursday, and if it goes well we'll continue about once a month.  The format will remain the same - sign up for the tunes you want to play from our "featured composers" set list.  The first night will be Thursday, June 8, so come on out!  More info

Gilgamesh
Coming this fall...  an intense new production of the 4,000-year-old epic.  Script by David Brendan Hopes (UNCA, Black Swan Theater), choreography by Ann Dunn (UNCA, Asheville Ballet), and original music by me!  We'll have a special preview performance at UNCA as part of the installation ceremonies for the new chancellor, and then a run of shows at Diana Wortham Theatre.  Stay tuned for more...

Tuesday Jazz Jam at Tressa's
Those of you who have lamented the Tressa's jazz open mic since it closed down, rejoice!  Chuck Lichtenberger is returning, with Grant Cuthbertson on bass and my very own self on drums.  The format will be somewhat different this time around - each night will focus on two composers, and players will sign up for specific songs.  We start on June 6, so come join us!  More info

Jazz Composer’s Forum
On Sunday, April 23, I will be presenting a Jazz Composer’s Forum concert at the Grey Eagle here in Asheville.  With me will be Chuck Lichtenberger, piano, Cameron Juroff, drums, and Mike Holstein, bass.  It’s a great venue (with a great restaurant), it’s non- smoking, and it’s all ages.  What excuse do you have not to come?  None!  More info

ANNA! returning to Asheville
The highly successful collaboration between Stephanie’s Id and The Ann Dunn Dancers returns for one more weekend!  ANNA! – a rock ballet – is a powerful modern piece set to a live rendition of S.id’s first album, Spiral In.  May 11-13 at the Diana Wortham Theatre.  More info

S.id in rehearsals for new album
On the heels of our EP release, Stephanie’s Id is already eyeballing the next CD.  We’ve carved out some rehearsal time (unheard of!) over the next 2 months, and we’re on our way!  Expect to hear some new songs and some old favorites, all wrapped up in the biggest, baddest album production yet.  We hope to release by the end of 2006 – stay tuned for progress reports.
